Cindy's Cookbook Shelf

Cindy’s Cookbook Shelf:  Our dear friend and charter club member Cindy Kuliga passed away a few years ago.  Cindy’s favorite Rotary projects were those involving books and kids in our community.  She loved visiting the school to present books to the kindergarten students, handing out books at the holiday parade, and reading to students whenever the opportunity was presented.  To honor Cindy we established "Cindy's Cookbook Shelf" at Mitchell School and stocked it with new cookbooks for students to enjoy.  We’ve been adding children’s cookbooks ever since, and this has become one of the most popular spots in the School Library.

Additional Program Expansion:

We have also supported the school's author visit program, and club members have spent several hours reading to schoolchildren in advance of the author visits.

In what we hope will expand our project to middle school children, we helped hand out books with meals at Shapleigh Middle School.
Our members have also handed out kids’ books during several Kittery activities, such as the Community Center’s Easter Egg Hunt and Gingerbread House Decorating event, and the Kittery Farmer’s Market.

Our club is always on the lookout for new and gently used books for the Book Exchange.  Especially popular are Chapter Books and age-appropriate Graphic Novels.
